Rohtak Is Starting Career Counselling From Class IX — What Other Schools Can Learn

In June 2026, Rohtak's district administration directed officials to prepare a structured plan for career counselling from Class IX in government schools. The official Haryana release describes guidance on higher education, competitive examinations, vocational courses, entrepreneurship and emerging employment opportunities.

The detail worth noticing is not simply that counselling is being introduced. It is that the intervention starts before Class XI and XII, when many academic and coaching decisions are already underway.

Early guidance changes the kind of question students can ask

Class IX allows the school to ask exploratory questions: What kinds of work exist? What am I interested in? Which skills do I enjoy using? What could I try? By Class XII, the questions become narrower and deadline-driven.

A roadmap needs more than information sessions

  • Grade-wise objectives and a yearly calendar.
  • Access to current pathway and course information.
  • Student reflection or aptitude tools used with interpretation.
  • Parent communication before subject decisions.
  • Local exposure to vocational, entrepreneurial and higher-education routes.

Rohtak can also connect guidance to its wider skills agenda

The same district review discussed skill development and student progress. Career guidance becomes more concrete when students can connect an interest to something they can learn or try locally rather than only reading about distant professions.

The official Rohtak release gives schools a useful scale reference

The same June review states that 66 government schools in the district were providing vocational education across 14 trades to 7,651 students, with more schools proposed. That matters because career guidance becomes stronger when students can connect abstract career information to skill and vocational opportunities already present in the local education system.

A Class IX student can therefore explore both academic and skill pathways without the school framing one as a fallback. The conversation can ask: what kind of work interests you, what local learning opportunities exist, what subjects or competencies matter, and what experience could help you learn more?

What Rohtak schools can measure in year one

  • How many Class IX students can name at least three realistic pathway families after guidance.
  • Which career questions recur most often by school or cluster.
  • How many students complete a verified pathway-research or exposure task.
  • Whether parents receive guidance before subject decisions.
  • Which local vocational or higher-education opportunities students had not previously known about.

These measures would not prove long-term career outcomes. They would tell administrators whether the new guidance roadmap is reaching students and improving the quality of information available at an earlier stage.

The next reporting question is implementation

The June government release describes the direction to prepare a structured plan. A responsible local article should therefore be updated when the district publishes how the plan is being implemented: counsellor capacity, school coverage, materials, calendar or student participation. Policy intent and delivered experience are not the same thing.

That distinction gives OnliGrow a useful editorial role. Instead of repeating the press release forever, the page can become a living explainer that separates announced plans, confirmed implementation and later outcomes as evidence becomes available.
